The Topic
SMSF Death Benefits post Super Reform -
The way that members of Self Managed Super Funds access their retirement savings can have a significant impact on estate planning outcomes. With new limits imposed on balances that can be held in pension phase, these fund members may now need to consider different approaches when withdrawing benefits from either their pension or accumulation accounts.
The SMSF regulator has also provided further guidance on death benefits that are paid from an SMSF and their expectations moving forward differ from past industry practice. Knowing what will be expected is essential.
In this session we will cover:
- Structuring member benefits to get the best outcomes for clients
- How the transfer balance cap limitations can be managed
- What is required to comply with the SIS cashing requirements for death benefits
- Why SMSF documentation is so important
